The most likely answer is that your 8mm film isn't worth much of anything, barring any sentimental value. Honestly, the value in old videos isn't really in how much money they're worth; it's about how much seeing the films is worth to you.

Kodak still manufactures Super 8 film cartridges, but there are millions of older home movie cameras that need a steady diet of Regular 8mm film (also known as Standard 8mm or Double 8mm) on spools. You can use a loupe or a large magnifying glass to view 8mm film, but this method only provides a brief preview. Carefully pull out the film beyond the leader (white starter tape) to see what's on the first few frames of footage. You'll need a high-powered magnifying glass of at least 10x for this to work.

Frame size: The frames on Super 8 film are 50% larger than the first 8mm film introduced in 1932, which were a mere 4.5mm. Kodak increased the frame on 8mm from 4.5 to 5.7mm to achieve a sharper image. On this newer version of the 8mm film, the frames fill about 57% of the film's full width of 7.9mm vs. 73% on Super 8.
