In order to get Veteran status, National Guard members need to have been called up for active duty, either under Title 10 (by the president) or under Title 32 (by the state governor) of the U.S. Code.

They are responsible for managing the readiness of the personnel component of combat power, provide critical Human Resources (HR) and Military Pay (MILPAY) support, and positively impact the daily lives of Soldiers & Families.

Each state in the United States has a senior military officer, as the state adjutant general, who is the de facto commander of a state's military forces, including the National Guard residing within the state, the state's naval militia, and any state defense forces.

You must meet these minimum requirements to join the National Guard or military reserves: Be a U.S. citizen or resident alien. Be between the ages of 17 and 42 (general requirement range; age varies by branch).
