High school. At Tivy High School, Manziel played high school football for four years, beginning with the freshman team in his first year. By the end of his first season, he played with the varsity team as a receiver. He began his sophomore year primarily as a receiver, but started the fourth game at quarterback.

Manziel is from Tyler, Texas, but his family moved to Kerrville, Texas, about 65 miles northwest of San Antonio, before he started high school. Manziel attended Tivy High School, where he emerged as one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the state.

"I try my best to play as much golf as I physically can," says Manziel, who now resides in Scottsdale, Arizona, which he calls "the mecca of golf." On a "normal day in the life," Manziel gets to the golf course by 11 a.m. and plays "as much as" he can before the sun sets.
