Lenovo has tried. It's made Windows slightly less cumbersome. The trackpad, FPS mode, and detachable controllers are all genuine value-adds. If you're willing to fiddle with settings and deal with UI jank, the Legion Go is probably the best Windows option right now.

It should last 5-6 years, if you are careful with it. Buy it with an upgraded CPU and more RAM if possible, so that it will still be useful in year 4-5. I don't see any major advancement in CPUs or GPUs happening soon. So you should expect it to last from 5 to 7 years without any hassle.

The Legion Go can run games from multiple game stores -- Game Pass, Steam, whatever. The only problem is, it's hard to tell what will actually run well... or run at all. The Legion Go can run any PC game store with its Windows flexibility.
